Stabroek Eagles, UG Trojans, and Pacesetters bag wins

The inaugural One Guyana Basketball Tournament, continued on Saturday, December 2 at the National Gymnasium with three games, in which Stabroek Eagles, UG Trojans, and Pacesetters respectively secured wins.
UG Trojans managed to restrict the Pepsi Sonics from advancing from the group as the Trojans had a commanding lead in the first quarter against Leonora D-UP Rising Stars with the scoreline reading 18-4.
The Trojans continued to dominate the game in the second quarter, scoring 12 points to elevate their score to 30 while limiting the Stars to 10 points for a total of 14 points.
In the next quarter, the Stars managed to put up a fight, but the Trojans’ defence was tough, limiting them to seven points for 21 points in total. The Trojans seemed to slow down offensively, scoring 10 points for a total of 40.
They secured their second victory in the final, scoring 24 points in the final quarter for an overall score of 64 points while the Stars continued to put up a fight, scoring 12 points for their overall total of 33.
The Stabroek Eagles annihilated the Lamaha Park/Springs Pepsi Sonics despite the latter, in the first quarter of the game, scoring 15 points while their opponents failed to get into double digits as they were limited to seven points.
The second quarter was beneficial for the Eagles, deemed tournament favourites, who scored 17 points while their opponents failed to put the ball through the net consistently – scoring 14 points.
The third quarter was also dominated by the Eagles, who put the ball through the net for 17 points, while the Sonics scored 15 points.

UG Trojans

The Eagles secured the win in the final quarter, by scoring 22 points, for a total of 66 at the end of the game while the Sonics scored nine points for a total of 50..
The final game was an upset as the Pacesetters cemented their spot in the next round of the league, handing Plaisance Guardians a defeat despite Guardians starting the game by showcasing their skills to go up 16-14 in the first quarter.
The Pacesetters did not give up the fight and kept their composure to crown a terrific comeback, scoring 15 points to increase their score to 29 while Guardians were limited to 12 points for a score of 28 at the end of the second quarter.
The Guardians again showed their strength, scoring 14 points in the face of tight defence to increase their overall score to 42 points at the end of the third quarter while the Pacesetters scored 10 points to increase their score to 39 points.
The Pacesetters managed to send the game into overtime scoring 13 points to level the scores at 52 points. The Guardians were limited to four points.
With the game in overtime, the Pacesetters showcased their shooting skills, swishing the ball for eight points for a final score of 60 points while the Guardians fumbled, scoring five points for a final score of 57.
