Stage set for fireworks tonight

Amidst a brilliant turnout at the weigh-in for the Guyana Board of Boxing Control (GBBC)/ Nexgen Global Marketing fight card “Sangre Malo” which means bad blood, the Venezuelan contingent issued a stern warning to their Guyanese opponents.
The three Venezuelan fighters are all in prime physical shape and have turned in rigorous preparations ahead of tonight’s fight.
Guyanese Bantamweight, IBF Intercontinental and WBC FECARBOX Champion Elton Dharry will face off against Jesus Vargas tonight; this bout is being touted as one of the most exciting fights of the night.
They two squared off at the weigh in and the tension was vivid; Dharry well ripped and looking fit as ever tipped the scale at 119.6lbs while Vargas’ weight was exactly 122lbs exactly.

Meanwhile the fighters of the co-main event, Trinidadian Shawn Corbin and Guyanese Sheldon Lawrence will be fighting for the light heavyweight WBC FECARBOX title. Corbin’s mark on the scale on Friday reached 174lbs while Sheldon Lawrence weighed in at 175lbs.
Dexter “Cobra” Gonzalez one of Guyana’s most dangerous boxers in the modern era will have his hands full despite having reach advantage over his opponent, Venezuela’s Felipe Barcelo. The latter is a stocky, solid looking boxer who from all appearances seems to be focused on just winning.
The “Cobra” who retired Clive Atwell back in 2016, weighed in at 134.4lbs while Barcelo had the weight advantage weighing in at 135.4lbs.
Dharry who has been undefeated in his last 18 fights has already thrown down the gauntlet by declaring that he is aiming to knockout his opponent, Jesus Garcia.
The main supporting bout on the card will feature Corbin facing Lawrence in a 12-round contest for the World Boxing Council’s Fecabox light heavyweight title. Corbin is making a return to the ring after losing to England’s Nathen Clevery in 2014 for the vacant WBA Inter-Continental cruiserweight title. He has won 15 of his 22 professional fights and lost five with two draws. Lawrence has won 10 fights (eight by knock-out) and lost one. He won his last four bouts.
United States -based Guyanese, Elton Dharry, who is the current CABOFE and Inter-Continental bantamweight champion will take on Jesus Garcia of Venezuela in an eight round contest.
Dharry arrived in Guyana on early Tuesday while the local boxers continued their rigorous training routines throughout the week. The fighters met with Minister of Social Cohesion with responsibility for Sport, Dr George Norton on Wednesday and the Minister promptly declared his support for the Guyanese corner. Heavyweight debutants Moore (Guyana) and Emmanuel (Barbados) will face-off in a four-round contest.
Guyana’s Anson Green and Barbados’ King will clash in a four-round junior middleweight contest also.
