Stage set for Novices Championships – GABBFF VP

The stage is set for the first event to be hosted by the new executive body of the Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) — the Novices Championships, which are set for tonight at the Theatre Guild in Kingston, Georgetown.

This was disclosed by vice president of GABBFF, Seon Satrohan, in an interview with this publication. Satrohan explained that this event is the stepping stone for all other events under the GABBFF, and the theme is “Simply the best… better than all the rest”.

“The event is coming along nicely,” he said. “We have seen a good support from the populace.” He disclosed that “over 30 athletes have so far signed up, and that number is expected to grow with athletes from Linden, Berbice and Georgetown ready to flex.”

This comes in light of the GABBFF making organised visits to these areas, gathering much information and receiving positive support for their plans ahead of the novices’ championships.

The country’s up-and-coming muscle men and women — displaying rippling abdominals, well defined quadriceps, sculpted arms, and sporting stilettos and bikinis — will be on display as they battle for supremacy when the action starts at 19:00h.

The categories that will be contested include the usual categories — Junior: under 21years; Flyweight: under 132lbs; Bantamweight: under 143lbs; Lightweight: 144lbs to 154lbs; Welterweight: 155lbs to 166lbs; Light Middleweight: 166lbs to 176lbs; and Heavyweight: 177lbs and over.

The Men’s Physique segment will be contested along with the customary bodybuilding categories: Ms. Bikini and Ms. Body Fitness.

According to General Secretary of the GABBFF, Lisa Ahmad, there has been overwhelming interest in the Men’s Physique category. She is encouraging the females to come out and participate, noting that there is a lot of talent just waiting to be displayed.

Admission to the venue will cost $1,500. Tickets are available at Fitness Express, Space Gym, Buddy’s Gym and Fitness 53. To date, the tournament has received sponsorship from the likes of Hand-in-Hand Insurance, Windjammer Hotel and Bar, Fitness Express, and the Giftland Mall.
