As the Guyana Hockey Board/Lucozade Indoor Hockey Tournament continues, Old Fort Stallions, Pizza Hut GCC and Hikers all registered wins on Friday at the National Gymnasium.
In the first match of the night, Pizza Hut GCC out played the Old Fort ladies to an entertaining 5:2 victory. The Xavier sisters were the main goal scorers for the GCC team, scoring three of the five goals. Carina Moller once again opened the account for GCC, blasting past the Old Fort goalie in the 7th minute. Carolyn Deane quickly responded for the Old Fort team when she placed them on the scorecard in the 10th minute.
Shonette Freeman would capitalise on a penalty goal to put Old Fort in the lead at the strike of the 12th minute.
Gabriella Xavier would then take matters into her own hand in the 16th minute when she levelled the scoreboard heading into halftime.
Xavier’s sister, Rebecca, would then set the lead for the GCC ladies in the 29th minute with a well directed shot past the Old Fort goalie. Vanessa Pires got among the goals extending the lead 4:2 in the 33rd minute. Gabriella Xavier would then return to finish things off with the fifth goal for the GCC team in the 36th minute with the final score ending at 5:2.
In the second battle, Hikers decimated the Spartans in a 5-0 drubbing, thanks to a hat-trick off goals from Tekeisha Dileon who scoring in the 5th, 15th and 40th minutes. Charlyn Elliot scored in the 12th and Maria Munroe in the 37th rounded off the goals for the match.
In the only male match of the night, doubles from Jason De Santos and Omar Hopkinson lead the Old Fort Stallions to a 4-1 Victory over Saints.
De Santos scored in the 8th and 37th minute while Hopkinson scored in the 26th and 36th minute.
Hilton Chester was the only resilience by the Saints team who scored in the 39th minute.
The excitement will continue this evening at the national Gymnasium with the first match slated to begin at 17:00h.
