Stanleytown taxi driver hospitalised after being shot

A 40-year-old taxi driver from Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara, has been hospitalised after he and his girlfriend were shot at on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred around 19:30h. The injured man has been identified as Bevon Grandville of Lot 74 Stanleytown.
According to Police reports, Grandville was in the company of his girlfriend conversing on the Stanleytown Public Road, when an identifiable male was observed some distance from them with a handgun in his possession.
The armed man then discharged several rounds at the couple, resulting in one of the bullets hitting the taxi driver. The shooter subsequently escaped in a waiting car.
The injured man was rushed to the West Demerara Hospital and admitted in stable condition. He sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh.
Meanwhile, the Police have said that no arrest was made, but investigations are in progress.
When contacted on Thursday evening, D Division (West Demerara and East Bank Essequibo) Commander Leslie James told Guyana Times that they were yet to ascertain the motive behind the shooting and whether there was any link between the suspect and the victims.
