The third leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships commences this weekend at the Bushy Park Circuit in Barbados and Guyanese ace rider Stephen Vieira is aiming to be the “top dog” at the end of the third round.
In an interview with
the Guyana Times Sport on Wednesday Vieira spoke about his confidence heading into this weekend’s races and the desire to extend his lead.
He explained, “we did a little test on the bike [Kawasaki ZX6-R] and one of the cylinders was dead so we replaced it, so that confidence alone is very good and I will be very competitive in Barbados; I’m actually looking to be the top dog over there”.
Vieira, who has won the championship four times in the past, is in poll position this year to cop a fifth title, leading the charts on 122 points, with is nearest challenge coming from cousin Matthew with 105 points.
The experienced rider, who was donned the nick name of “Valentino Rossi”, expressed optimised as he heads back to track with fond memories.
“It is going to be fun, the competition is going to be very high, and the threat will be Barbadian Brook Miller, so I expect us to have a battle for first place on the podium,” the biker revealed.
The Sunburst sponsored rider in commenting on how the rivalry on the local circuit has improved, with the likes of cousins Matthew and Eliot (defending CMRC Super stock Champion), says his experience is what gives him the edge.
“I think they are very competitive but what gives me the edge is that I have a bit more racing experience than them but they are very good,” Vieira said.
In closing he highlighted the support of his sponsors: Sunburst, Palm Court, Top End Fitness and Team Pure Racing and Uncle Paul Da Silva. Vieira is expected to leave Guyana today for the championships.
