Still… trying with PNC

Well, who woulda believe?? But there he was…Bharat Jagdeo – now VP of Guyana addressing an “evening of tributes” organized by the PNC to former PNCR leader Robert Corbin – calling for the two parties to “work together” for the good of Guyana!! Two decades ago, Jagdeo and Corbin themselves had spent quite a few days locked in discussions towards that end…but without consummating a deal!! And at that time, the was besieged by the Buxton bandits – determined to bring everything crashing down!!
Those talks had been a continuation of a “dialogue” between Jagdeo and Hoyte – ended with Hoyte’s unexpected passing. But “working together” talks between the PPP and PNC hadn’t started just this millennium – this has been our equivalent of looking for a political Holy Grail, going all the way back to when Burnham had broken away from Jagan’s PPP in the 1950’s!! For a while there were actually TWO PPPs – PPP/Jagan and PPP/Burnham – that actually contested the 1957 elections!!
And maybe this is what it’s all about, innit?? These parties are two peas from the same pod – the pod of a party representing all Guyana – One Guyana, if you will!! Jagan had crafted a detailed, itemized offer in 1977 to Burnham and talks were said to’ve broken down when Janet wouldn’t go along!! They were picked up in 1985 and were actually in progress when Burnham passed! Everyone thought his successor Hoyte would’ve picked up where he left off but Hoyte decided otherwise!
And that brings us to the new offer made by Jagdeo who’s got a reputation in the PNC as a hardliner!! But maybe that’s what’s needed, innit?? Pioneeringly, it took a staunch anti-communist Nixon to make the ground breaking peace with Communist China in 1972 – for the simple reason that he couldn’t be seen a giving away the store to those he’d opposed for so long!!
And that brings us to the present offer that was thrown out to the PNC faithful that had come out to mourn Corbin – who’d been quite committed to the ideal of the PNC working together with the PPP. So, what does your Eyewitness think are the chances of something concrete coming out of this?? The PNC right now is a shadow of its former self – having been decimated by Sanction Man’s WIN.
It would make sense for them to accept the outstretched hand since they’d could bargain for a real place at the table where decisions are being made on how to use the oil revenues to develop our ONE GUYANA!!
Your Eyewitness expects resistance from Black Pudding Man and Fried Chicken Man – who’d have to take a back seat to real PNC reps!!
But they ain’t real PNC, are they??

…crazy like a fox
Well, last your Eyewitness heard, Sanction Man was still in jail after caught in flagrante delicto – red handed, so to speak, with a smoking gun!! Here he was – at midnight surveilling the home of the chief witness in his extradition hearing – who just happened to be Guyana’s spy chief!! And that was just the beginning – shots were exchanged and after a hot pursuit he and a couple of henchmen were nabbed!
But the question is – were they booked?? And this is where things get tricky!! While many think Sanction Man was crazy to be pushing the envelope like this, your Eyewitness thinks he’s crazy all right – crazy like a fox!! He’s hoping to be charged – not only to rouse up his scrapehead followers to commit mayhem – but to hold up his extradition hearings!!
If charged, he’s gonna demand a trial right here in Guyana – and drag that out since he sees the tactic wearing thin at his extradition hearing in front of Magistrate Judy!!
