Home News Store employee charged for stealing amplifier
An employee of Regent Household Plus was on Monday hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and remanded to prison for stealing an amplifier.
Twenty-nine-year-old Rickford Atwell of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and denied the charge which stated that on October 2, 2019, at Regent Household Plus, he stole one amplifier worth $45,000, property of Saied Amid.
The court heard that Atwell was employed by the Virtual Complainant’s father and worked at his store on Regent Street, Georgetown.
According to the prosecution’s case, the business place was closed and the normal afternoon checks on employees’ bags were carried out when the amplifier was discovered in the defendant’s bag. As such, the police were called and Atwell was arrested. Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus remanded Atwell to prison. The case will continue on October 21, 2019.
