Strong message needs to be sent

Dear Editor,
Shouldn’t the ‘romantic bandit’ be charged for pretending to be a man? Isn’t that sexual impersonation – a criminal offence?
While the matter has been dropped, as full repayment has been made, the fact still remains that a crime was knowingly committed. At the very minimum, the ‘bandit’ should have been made to do some form of community service as a way of seeking pardon from society.
A strong message needs to be sent to persons bent on committing this type of crime. As for the victim, as the saying goes, a fool and her money are soon parted.

Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
