Suicide Prevention Awareness Fair held in Region 2
Scores of persons in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) flocked the Anna Regina Car Park area last week to attend the first Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Awareness Fair, held under the theme ‘’Connect, Communicate, Care”.
The team, headed by Director of Mental Health, Dr Meena Ramkumar and consultants; physicist, Dr Maria Carmen Perez, Dr Elizabeth Nickram, Dr Stephon Henry, social worker, Sharon Ramkarran and physiologist Marianela Fonseca, offered free counselling and other advice to Essequibians.
According to Dr Ramkumar, the activity was staged to coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day and World Mental Health Day which is slated for October 10.
The team offered much needed information on Suicide Prevention and other ills that are affecting society. During the activity, counselling sessions were also conducted with Police trainees at the Richard Faikall Police College. During the fair, brochures, t-shirts, posters and other items relating to suicide prevention were distributed.
