Supenaam-Good Hope youths call for Govt’s intervention to fix sport facility

Youths in Supenaam-Good Hope and neighbouring villages on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Supenaam-Pomeroon), are calling on Government to fix the community centre to facilitate sports and other events, which will help them to engage in meaningful activities.

The current state of the Good Hope ground

The call by the young people was echoed and reiterated by Coach and educator Albert Tucker. Tucker told Guyana Times that the plot of land, which was given to the community for sports, if fixed, would be a tribute to young people being constructively engaged. The land is in Good Hope village. He said that last year the Social Cohesion Ministry had promised to donate some money towards the development of the ground, but that promise was yet to materialise.

The Community Centre building is being taken over by vegetation

Presently, the ground is in a deplorable state. The Coach added that once assistance was given by the Government, the community was willing to assist in the works to be carried out. He added that they could also adapt the Community Centre building, next door to the ground, which was presently not functioning and was slowly being taken over by vegetation. According to the Coach, he is presently engaging the youths, both male and female, in cricket and football, but space to practice is the problem. He said that he was hoping that the Administration would come on board and fix the Community Centre Ground, to encourage youths to engage in positive activities.
