Twenty-three-year-old Navindra Budhai, of Supenaam on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) narrowly escaped death after the tractor he
was travelling on toppled and pinned him to the ground for hours.
The incident occurred almost two weeks ago around 20:00h at Buckhall. Recounting the horrific ordeal, Budhai said that on Diwali night, his life changed forever. He explained that he, along with the driver of the tractor, were going uphill along a rocky path when tragedy stuck.
The man said that before he realised what was happening, he was pinned under the tractor and in immense pain. As a result, Budhai suffered a displaced hip and remains a patient at the Suddie Public Hospital.
The 23-year-old further explained that he screamed for help and the driver along with another man assisted him. He was rushed out of the area to the Suddie Public Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to his left foot.
Budhai said he cannot yet come to grips with the situation and he is hoping that he would be able to walk properly again. The miner takes care of his parents and usually ventures to the backdam to earn a livelihood. Guyana Times is unaware if the matter was officially reported to the Police. Budhai is expected to spend another week at the medical facility.
