Superintendent’s firearm stolen during EBD crash

Commandant of the Felix Austin Police College and former Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Police Force, Superintendent Shiverpersaud Bacchus, was on Friday morning robbed after being involved in an accident on the East Bank Demerara (EBD).
According to reports, Bacchus is now a patient at the St Joseph Mercy Hospital, reportedly in a stable condition, as a result of the accident which occurred at about 10:30h on the Diamond Public Road, EBD.
Guyana Times understands that Bacchus was proceeding north along the western carriageway of the Diamond Public Road when, in the vicinity of the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), two pedestrians who were standing on the western parapet suddenly crossed the road eastward, causing him to take evasive action.
He reportedly veered further west to avoid a collision, and crashed his motor jeep, PNN 2849, into a fence.
However, persons who appeared to have been attempting to lend their assistance to the officer reportedly removed a large sum of cash and Bacchus’s service revolver.
The superintendent was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he received medical attention and was later transferred to the St Joseph Mercy Hospital.
Meanwhile, in a statement on Friday, the GPF stated that Acting Police Commissioner David Ramnarine and a team of senior officers comprising second-in-command of the Force’s Administration, Assistant Commissioner Maxine Graham, DSM; Force Welfare Officer, Assistant Superintendent Jewel Sullivan; and Public Relations Officer Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, visited the officer.
The Police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
