Supermarket security shoots man during confrontation over fake $5000 note

A yet to be identified man was shot on Monday evening during a confrontation over a fake $5000 note at the “Good Life” supermarket at Grove, East Bank Demerara.
Reports are that about 20:00h two men went into the Chinese supermarket to make a purchase and were about to enter an awaiting car when the proprietor of the establishment realised that the $5000 bill was a counterfeit.

This newspaper was told that this led to a confrontation between the men and the proprietor causing the security to intervene. The security claimed that he saw one of the men pull out what appeared to be a weapon and he discharged a round. The bullet hit the suspect to his back and as he fell to the ground the other person who was with him jumped into the awaiting car and drove off, leaving him behind.
Police were summoned to the scene and the injured man was picked up and rushed to the Diamond Hospital. The security guard has since been taken into custody and his weapon lodged with Police as investigations continue.
