Home Letters Support for putting sugar industry into private hands
Dear Editor,
I do hereby fully endorse what Nowrand Persaud said about putting the sugar industry into private hands; this advice is coming from a man with knowledge, keen vision and very good judgement, as he has experience in the management of the sugar industry.
As history will prove, when Booker Tate was awarded the management contract to run the sugar industry by Desmond Hoyte – then President of Guyana – Booker Tate raise the workers’ wages and salaries to great heights, the unions operating in the sugar industry were caught off guard, and was very surprised and shocked with these increases.
On the other hand, sugar production also went up, as all was well with both management and workers there was peace and calm in the Industrial relation climate.
But with the interference from politician and Government there was a decline that affects all sector of the sugar industry that leads to the current state, what a sad day for Guyanese.
It’s a well-known fact that Government should not own or run any business as they cannot manage the affairs, Government only know how to collect taxes and duty.
Respectfully,
Albert Persaud
