The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) has intercepted a Suriname base Guyanese woman with 1.948 kilograms of cocaine at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Monday night.
The woman, identified as 42-year-old Tommy Ann Bunbury of Condor Straat #1 Paramaribo, Suriname and lot 10 Victoria Road, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara was said to be travelling to New York at the time of interception.
CANU said that the mother of 7 has been living in Suriname for the past six years and periodically returns to Guyana to fulfil immigration obligations.
Bunbury recently travelled from Suriname to Guyana to leave for the United States.
A CANU Officer conducted a search on Bunbury’s two suitcases and on her carry-on piece and a number of objects were probed including hardcover books, handbag, makeup kits, deodorants, nail polish covers, mascara and permanent markers and whitish substances suspected to be cocaine emanated from the said objects.
She was arrested and is in custody assisting with investigations.
