Hit-and-run
One person was taken into custody as Police continue their investigations into the hit-and-run accident which occurred last Monday at Number Naught Village, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The accident resulted in the death of Trishan Sahai, also called “Star”, 19, of Number 57 Village, Corentyne. Injured in the accident was Sahai’s friend, 28-year-old friend Mooneshwar Jairam, also called “Bodo” of the same village.
Guyana Times understands that Police swooped down on a vehicle owner whose vehicle has since been impounded, after they received information that the man recently had the headlamps changed and a part of the front of the car was re-sprayed.
According to the Police, a motor vehicle was proceeding north along the Corentyne Highway at a fast rate, when it struck Sahai and Jairam who were walking across the road at Number Naught Village.
Sahai was thrown about 30 feet, while Jairam landed on top of the motorcar breaking the windscreen and rear-view mirror in the process.
However, following the accident the driver sped away. Investigations are ongoing. (Andrew Carmichael)
