Suspected bandit shot by accomplice during robbery

Lloyd Thomas, also called ‘Cuffy”, proprietor of the Blue Mountain Sports Bar at Grant Sand Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was in the wee hours of Wednesday shot by an accomplice during a robbery in Soesdyke.
Initially, it was speculated that Thomas might have been shot by the Chinese owner of the supermarket, but the Police have since confirmed that it was Thomas’s accomplice who had shot him.

The injured Thomas being escorted to the hospital

Thomas and at least two other men had allegedly broken into a supermarket owned by a 49-year-old Chinese national. One of those men was reportedly carrying a handgun.
The Police have reported being told by the robbery victim that he was awakened at about 02:30h by a loud banging noise coming from his door, and soon after, he heard a loud explosion, resembling that of a gunshot.
Upon investigating, the victim said, he came face to face with a male whose face was covered with a mask. At the time, one of the men, who was later identified as Thomas, was seen lying in front of the door with blood coming from his head.
The two other suspects then ran out of the building via a hole in the concrete wall, and made good their escape by reportedly entering a vehicle owned by Thomas, which sped off the scene.
The Police were subsequently informed, and the injured man was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he is receiving medical treatment under Police guard.
One .9mm spent shell was recovered at the scene.
Police sources have confirmed that Thomas is no stranger to the Police, since, in the past, he had been investigated for his involvement in several crimes. Police are on the hunt for the other suspects as investigations continue.
