A 23-year-old suspected bandit of Laing Avenue, Charlestown, Georgetown was on Friday shot to his right foot by police moments after he and an accomplice were cornered after robbing a Bourda Market vendor of 0,000 in cash. 
The suspect is presently under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Reports are that a 56-year-old vendor had just arrived at his Pike Street, Kitty residence and was about to open his gate when the suspects confronted him. The men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, held the vendor at gunpoint and relieved him of the bag containing the money before making good their escape. The police were alerted, and responded promptly.
They cornered the men in Kitty, but the bandits opened fire on the police ranks. The police returned fire, hitting one of the bandits, who fell to the ground while the other escaped. A portion of the loot has been recovered in his possession.
And acting on information, police conducted a search on a house at Duncan Street, Newtown, during which an unlicensed revolver and two live rounds of ammunition, along with one spent shell, were found.
Four males and two females who were at the house at the time of the police search have been arrested. One of the females is said to be the girlfriend of the wounded suspect.
The police are continuing their hunt for the second bandit as investigations continue.
