A suspected burglar is now nursing gunshot injuries to his arm, back and abdomen after he attempted to break into the home of a businessman on Sunday evening at Settlement, North West District (NWD), Region One (Barima-Waini).
According to information received, the businessman, Sheldon Baharally, 33, alleged that shortly after midnight on Sunday, he confronted someone who was attempting to break into his home.
The businessman, who is a licensed firearm holder, reportedly discharged several shots in the direction of the perpetrator, who made good his escape.
As such, the matter was reported and the Police turned up at the location to commence their investigations.
However, acting on information received, detectives went to the home of a 20-year-old man in the Barima River and observed that he was nursing gunshot wounds to his arm, back and abdomen.
Upon inquiring about the injuries, the young man reportedly told detectives that he was at a house the previous night and was shot. He was immediately arrested and taken to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital where he was treated and admitted under guard.
The Police are continuing their investigations.
