At least eight tassa groups are expected to square off today at the Diamond New Scheme Tarmac, East Bank Demerara, for the first ever “Tassarama” organised in time for the commemoration of the 179th anniversary of the arrival of East Indians to Guyana.
The groups are from the East Bank, East Coast, West Bank and West Coast of Demerara with at least one group from West Berbice. They all will be competing for 0,000 in cash and trophies. The inaugural event is organised by RB Dubraj Production.
This event promises to be very entertaining with a packed cultural show that will see live performances by the Caribbean Hotshot Band led by Dharmendra Gobin and Rajesh Dubraj.
In addition, there will be several dance pieces by members of various dance troupes but the main attraction will be the tassa drumming competition. However, persons can also enjoy Indian delicacies in abundance and partake in the mehendi designing camp as well as feast their eyes and dig into their wallets and purses at the extravageant exhibition and costume sale.
The kids will not be left out as there will be lots of games to keep them occupied. Finally, there will be a well-stocked bar. Admission to the event is absolutely free.
