Taxi driver assaults passenger over payment of fare

A 22-year-old labourer of Crane Old Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD), was on Sunday evening dealt one blow with a steel rod by a taxi driver during a misunderstanding.
Police stated that on the day in question at about 23:00h, the victim hired the taxi to take him to Soesdyke on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) for $15,000.
However, on the completion of the trip, the two men had a misunderstanding with respect to payments.
This, however, caused the taxi driver to become annoyed and in retaliation, he picked up a steel rod and dealt the victim one lash to the left elbow, thus causing him to sustain a fractured hand.
The victim is presently admitted at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. Police have since confirmed that the suspect was arrested and escorted to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station where he was placed into custody assisting with the investigations.
Charges are expected to be laid shortly.
