Taxi driver busted with ganja, cocaine granted $300K bail
Madho Persaud, called ‘God’, a 52-year-old taxi driver of Riverstown, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), has been placed on $300,000 bail after appearing on Thursday before Suddie Magistrate Esther Sam and pleading not guilty to possession of cocaine and cannabis charges.
Persaud was arrested on Tuesday after 119 grams of cannabis and 28.6 grams of cocaine were allegedly found in his vehicle when it was intercepted by Police at Walton Hall, Essequibo Coast.
Police report that, on the day in question, Persaud was driving his vehicle when he spotted a mobile patrol and made an about-turn. Police gave chase, and Persaud’s vehicle was intercepted. The narcotics were reportedly found under the mat on the driver’s side of the car.
The prosecutor strenuously objected to Persaud being afforded his pre-trial liberty, but the magistrate granted him bail in the following amounts: $200,000 for the possession of cannabis charge, and $100,000 for the possession of cocaine charge. A condition stipulated in Persaud being granted bail is that he has to report to the Suddie Police Station every Monday at 09:00h until his matters have been determined.
His matters have been adjourned to March 1, 2024.
