Taxi driver charged for sexually assaulting 9-year-old

This case was heard in-camera before Magistrate Judy Latchman, away from the prying ears of the public on Wednesday morning.
According to reports reaching Guyana Times, the defendant was charged for sexually assaulting a minor under the age of 16. The incident occurred between June 1, 2017 and June 30, 2017 in the Georgetown area.

Upon picking up the girl, the taxi driver allegedly proceeded to unzip her clothing and attempted to fondle her before taking her home as instructed.
The traumatised victim disclosed the incident to her mother some time later which resulted in Police reports being made, leading to the arrest of the defendant who was slapped with the charge for which he is presently appearing before the court.
Although details surrounding the incident remain vague, this publication gathered that the accused was represented by Attorney-at-Law Sase Gunraj, who managed to secure bail for his client in the sum of 0,000.
The accused is slated to return to court on October 5, 2017.
