Taxi driver critical after late-night shooting at Triumph, ECD

A 31-year-old taxi driver is in critical condition at the hospital after he was shot to the head late Monday night while travelling along the public road at Triumph, East Coast Demerara.
The incident occurred at about 23:45 hrs on Monday, in the vicinity of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) office in Region Four. The injured man, a resident of Annandale West, ECD, was reportedly driving west along the roadway with another male occupant when he was allegedly pursued by several motorcyclists.
Preliminary information indicates that a loud sound was heard while the vehicle was in motion, after which the right-side glass shattered. The driver reportedly lost consciousness moments later, causing the vehicle to collide with a metal rail.
The injured man was rushed to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where doctors confirmed that he sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He remains hospitalised in a serious condition.
The motor car involved was examined and lodged as part of the investigation. Police also canvassed the area, extracted CCTV footage, and questioned several individuals.
Authorities are treating the matter as an alleged incident of discharging a firearm with the intent to commit murder. No arrests have been made so far, and investigations are continuing.
