Taxi driver found guilty of illegal gun, ammo possession

Twenty-seven-year-old Kacey Chapman of Lot 77 South Sophia, Greater Georgetown, now awaits his sentencing after he was found guilty of charges relating to illegal firearm and ammunition possession last week.
The taxi driver was on trial before Magistrate Rondel Weaver at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was found guilty of the offences shortly after his alleged accomplices Sheldon Andrews and Adam McDonald were freed of the joint charge.
The trio were charged in November of 2018 for 1) possession of a .32 Taurus pistol without being a licenced firearm holder. 2) Possession of a 9mm Glock pistol without being the licenced firearm holder. 3) Possession of 12 live 9mm rounds of ammunition and 7 live rounds of .32 ammunition, also without being a licenced firearm holder at the time.
However, Magistrate Weaver recently found his two alleged accomplices not guilty after insufficient evidence was presented for a conviction. However, the now convicted man was given the opportunity to lead his defence, which later resulted in his conviction.
Chapman was represented by Attorney-at-Law Adrian Thompson. His sentencing was deferred to September 6, 2019 to accommodate the preparation and presentation of a probation report.
Reports are Police received information that three men were in a vehicle trailing a businesswoman from the Eugene F Correia International Airport, Ogle, East Coast Demerara and as a result, roadblocks were set up.
Police ranks attached to the Ruimveldt Police Station were on the lookout at High and Princes Streets, Georgetown, when they observed three men sitting in a vehicle and acting suspiciously. The ranks then approached the vehicle and conducted a search. During the search they found the illegal items.
