Taxi driver further remanded on illegal gun, ammo possession

Devon Porter of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, who was nabbed by Police during a high-speed chase through the streets of Charlestown, Georgetown on August 9th, was on Friday further remanded to prison by Magistrate Leron Daly when he made his second court appearance in relation to the charges he faces.
Slapped with firearm and ammunition possession charges, Porter, who claimed to have been a taxi driver, had previously denied both charges when they were read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The court was informed that on August 9, 2018, while in the vicinity of Howes Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, Porter had in his possession a .38 revolver without being a licensed firearm holder.
It has also been alleged that on the same day and at the same time, he had in his possession one live round of .38 ammunition.
The prosecution informed the court that the 38-year-old Porter was arrested after a high-speed chase with Police through the streets of Charlestown, Georgetown.
According to Police, upon observing the “suspicious movements” of motor car PWW 149, the lawmen signalled the driver to stop the vehicle. As Police approached the car, they allegedly observed Porter throwing the said firearm through the window of the vehicle and into a nearby drain. The car then accelerated and eventually crashed into a light pole in Lying Street, Charlestown.
The matter will continue on October 19 for a report.
