A taxi driver attached to Green Ice Taxi Service narrowly escaped death after the car he was driving crashed into a parked sand truck along the East Bank Demerara roadway.
The incident occurred on Saturday at around midday at Industrial Site, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, in the vicinity of National Hardware.
The driver reportedly suffered a fractured skull and was rushed to a city hospital for emergency medical attention.
The vehicle’s shattered windshield was heavily stained with blood which trailed into a huge puddle on the road.
Based on information received, the taxi bearing registration number HC 2656, which was without passengers, was heading to Georgetown when it crashed into the truck.
Eyewitnesses believe that the driver of the car fell asleep at the wheel and skidded off the roadway into the parked motor lorry, bearing registration plates GRR 2445.
The truck driver was extremely annoyed, claiming that it will take millions of dollars to repair his vehicle. The chassis was severely damaged, the tyres burst and the lights broken.
The Police have launched an investigation into the accident. Both vehicles were towed to the Ruimveldt Police Station as investigations continue.
