Taxi driver, passengers nabbed with cocaine, ganja in car

A taxi driver has now landed himself in hot water after he was arrested along with two passengers when Police unearthed a quantity of cocaine and marijuana hidden in a haversack inside the vehicle.
Reports are that Police intercepted the car at about 02:00h on Saturday along the Barnell Public Road, Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), after ranks received information that the illegal substances were being transported in motorcar PYY 717.
A roadblock was conducted and as the motorcar approached the Police, the driver, who alleged that he was hired to transport the two male customers to a location, was told to park the vehicle in a corner to facilitate a search.
At that time, one of the passengers had a haversack in his possession which the policemen also searched. The search revealed over 2000 grams of cannabis along with a small quantity of cocaine wrapped in several layers of plastic.
The two passengers, along with the driver, were arrested and taken to the Parika Police Station.
When contacted, Police Commander of Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), Assistant Police Commissioner Simon Mc Bean confirmed that the three men were notified of the offence and are currently in Police custody.
