Guyana Times understands that at approximately 01:30h on Sunday, the woman and her friends hailed HC 2302 to take them to their respective homes.

However, after the man stopped at the first house, he drove off with the woman’s bag which contained her iPhone, money and other valuables.

Using the GPS on her phone, the woman, accompanied by the Police, was able to track the driver down, who denied the allegations.

According to the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, she approached the man and enquired whether he picked up her and her friends, and he replied in the affirmative. “I approached him and asked if he had just picked up me and my friends to which he admitted. I then asked for my belongings and he pretended to not know what I was talking about, but eventually reached over onto the passenger side floor and picked up my phone,” the woman explained.

She further relayed that she enquired where her bag was and was told by the taxi driver that he could not say.

“When I asked for my bag, however, he claimed he didn’t know I left it and a passenger he just dropped off might have gone with it. I called him out on his bull **** and kept asking for my bag, but he kept denying.”

The woman further questioned the driver in the presence of the Police as to why he left with her belongings; the man then told her that one of the passengers told him to leave.

“This was untrue since I was the last person to leave the car and no one ever turned back,” she explained.

The taxi driver was told by Police to drive to the Police Station as he was going to be locked up, but the man then escaped.

The upset woman said that the work of the Police was very sloppy, as they did not even search the man’s car even after he was caught with her phone, which he was in the process of charging.

Up to press time, the whereabouts of the man were still unknown; however, a search has been launched.
