Taxi driver shot thrice during robbery at BV

Forty-one-year-old Raulvin Maynard, called “Raulo”, a taxi driver of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was on Wednesday evening shot thrice during a robbery at Quamina Road, Beterverwagting, ECD.
He is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital, and his condition is reportedly stable.
Based on reports received, the victim, who was accompanied by his daughter, was working at the time of the incident. He had just dropped off a customer in Beterverwagting, and was about to leave the area when he was stopped by a male.
Upon entering the car, the man asked to be taken to the Railway Embankment, but as the driver was in the process of turning around his car, the man whipped out a handgun and ordered him to stop the vehicle, hand over his cash, and exit the vehicle.
In defence, Maynard held on to the suspect’s gun, but the suspect pulled the trigger and the round hit Maynard to his upper right thigh. The armed man then relieved Maynard of his phone, and demanded that he exit the car. Maynard again held on to the suspect’s gun, and was shot two more times, once to his left upper arm and once to his left wrist. The suspect then exited the car and made good his escape.
Public-spirited citizens took the injured Maynard to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was treated and admitted. The matter was reported, and an investigation has been launched. No arrest was made up to press time.
