Taxi driver slapped with narco-trafficking charge

A taxi driver was on Thursday remanded to prison when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts slapped with a trafficking in narcotics charge.
Sherwin Clarke of Canje, Berbice denied that he trafficked 3.86 kilograms of cannabis on February 11, 2019.
Clarke, a father-to-be, was reportedly intercepted by Police at Garnette Street, Kitty, Georgetown when his car was stopped and searched by Custom Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks.
Bail was objected to for the 36-year-old man and Magistrate McLennan upheld CANU Prosecutor Narissa Leander’s submissions. The Prosecutor pointed out to the court that Clarke had admitted to the offence.
