Taxi driver stabbed, robbed by trio carrying baby

A 26-year-old taxi driver was reportedly stabbed and robbed on Monday evening at Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara (WCD), by a woman and two men who were travelling with a baby.
The injured taxi driver was identified as Insaf Zakir also called “Gaddafi” of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
Preliminary investigations revealed that the taxi driver was at the Tuschen car park when he was approached by the female who was carrying a baby and two males, requesting to be taken to Best Village, WCD.
However, as they were in the vicinity of Crane Housing Scheme, one of the men who was seated behind the driver grabbed him by the neck and demanded that he hand over his valuables.
Police stated that as the victim put up a resistance, the man pulled out a knife and dealt him several stabs to his chest.
The other male then relieved the injured taxi driver of a mobile phone after which the three persons made good their escape on foot. The Police were subsequently contacted and the young man was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH), where he was treated and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
There, he was treated and admitted a patient in stable condition. Checks were made for the perpetrators, but to no avail. The Police are continuing their investigations.
