Taxi driver stabbed to neck during hijacking

A 40-year-old taxi driver is now battling for his life after he was stabbed to the neck by a man who joined his car at Port Kaituma, Region One (Barima-Waini).
Injured is Troy Roberts of Fitzburg, Port Kaituma, Barima-Waini.
Reports are that the suspect and another man, who was identified as a 26-year-old gold miner of Port Kaituma, joined the victim’s car at about 17:30h on Friday, at Port Kaituma, destined for an unknown location.
However, during their journey, the suspect allegedly whipped out a sharp object and stabbed the driver in the neck.
This newspaper was told that the taxi driver stopped the vehicle, jumped out and began running. It was at that time the suspect entered the driver’s seat and drove away with the vehicle along with the other passenger of the car.
During his escape, the suspect crashed the vehicle. Following the crash, he exited the car and fled the scene, leaving the 26-year-old miner behind.
Roberts was taken to the Port Kaituma Hospital, where he was treated but had to be medevaced to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) as a result of the extent of his injuries.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old miner was also taken to the hospital where he was treated for a fractured right arm.
Police continue to hunt for the suspect as the probe into the matter continues. (G9)
