Volleyball action resumed on Sunday at the Marriott beachfront as many of Guyana’s top players and clubs came out to enjoy some much-needed action since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic caused a break in play.
The TC Port Mourant junior male volleyball team and the PMTC senior male volleyball teams were the winners of a two-zone competition consisting of three junior teams – #55, Three Doors Strikers and TC Port Mourant – and four senior teams – PMTC, Rollers, Three Doors Strikers, and Black Bush.
Round-robins were played in both categories. TC defeated #55 and Three Doors Strikers to gain the first-place trophy. While PMTC played unbeaten to cop the first prize for the seniors. Rollers placed second and Black Bush, third. The tournament was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCY&S).

In a statement, Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) President Levi Nedd said, “As president of the GVF I must commend the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport for sponsoring this Berbice segment of volleyball. It is now left to do the same with Demerara, who, however, is managing to keep volleyball alive in the capital. COVID guidelines were stuck to and all hurdles were crossed.”
