The highly successful “Teach Them Young” cycling programme returns to the inner circuit of the National Park starting on Monday July 11 and concluding on September 2, 2016. The eight weeks cycling camp caters for young students on school vacation and is opened to all school boys and girls, beginners and other persons interested in developing their cycling skills.
The programme is free of cost and conductor of the programme, national coach Hassan Mohamed urges parents to take advantage of the opportunity to enroll their children and get them involved in these activities as it would provide them with great benefits.
Coaching sessions will be held from Monday to Friday from 09:00h to 11:00h and participants will be exposed to the fundamentals of cycling and also be given the opportunity to participate in age group races. Interested participants must be in possession of a BMX,
Mountain or Racing cycle along with protective head gear.
The programme started in 1977, producing the likes of then Christ Church Secondary School Students Hector Edwards and Leo Ramalho who would both go on to participate at the Guyana Teachers Union National Championships in1979.
Reigning national road race champion Geron Williams is also a product of the “Teach Them Young” having begun the programme at the BMX level.
