Teacher charged for slapping, beating student

A teacher found herself before the court on Friday after she reportedly struck a student repeatedly, leaving scars on his body.
Selena Samuels denied the charge when Magistrate Leron Daly read it to her at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The charge alleged that on October 16, 2017, she unlawfully assaulted Richard Stephens.
The court heard from the Virtual Complainant’s (VC’s) father who stated that the child was taken to a washroom in the school where he was repeatedly slapped and beaten by the accused.
Marks of violence were observed by relatives and the child was taken to a medical officer where he was examined. It was then that he revealed what transpired.
As such, the matter was reported and the teacher was charged with the offence. She was granted ,000 bail and is expected to return to court on October 23. (Kizzy Coleman)
