A school teacher was on Sunday killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a vehicle belonging to the Finance Ministry.
Dead is 20-year-old Nathanael Ledra called “Nato” of Lot 195 Mibicuri North Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Reports are that the accident occurred on the Number Three Public Road, West Coast Berbice, Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice).
This newspaper was told at 15:45h the Jeep bearing registration number PTT 5255, and Ledra were heading towards Number Five Village but at Number Three Village, the Jeep stopped on the southern drive lane and allegedly made a sudden U-turn from the southern to the northern side. This resulted in the motorcyclist swerving north and colliding with the front right side of the Jeep.
Ledra fell and the Jeep ran over the motorcycle, crushing the teacher in the process.
The injured motorcyclist was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the Jeep was being driven by a 68-year-old man of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
The driver is currently assisting with the investigations and remains in custody.
