Teacher trailed from bank, robbed of over $1.2M

A teacher who had just withdrawn some $1.2 million from Citizen’s Bank was early on Tuesday morning trailed from the said bank and robbed of the cash by armed men.
Fifty-year-old Kathryn Persico of Lot 45 Third Street, Albertown, Georgetown, was attacked and robbed in front of her house at around 10:32h.

According to reports, Persico – who is widely hailed as one of the best Grade Six teachers in Guyana – left her home at around 08:50h and visited the bank on Camp Street, Georgetown using a taxi.
She withdrew the cash and placed it in a bag which already contained some $50,000 and re-joined the taxi which had waited for her.
Guyana Times understand that upon her return to her residence, Persico exited the taxi and was about to walk to her gate when she noticed two men approaching from a northern direction on a motorcycle.
The pillion rider jumped off of the motorcycle, whipped out a gun, pointed it at Persico and demanded that she hand over her bag.
The woman reportedly became afraid and complied with the demand, handing over her bag which contained the cash and documents.
The man then hopped back on the motorcycle and his accomplice sped away East on Third Street.
CCTV footage was retrieved and the Police are using it to assist them as they carry out their investigation.
