Team Alanis/Attack Racing/Professional Keyshop 55-miler: Berbicians delighted as attacking “Padlock” rides solo to clinch victory

Andre ‘Padlock’ Green has clinched the Team Alanis/ Attack Racing/ Professional Keyshop 55-mile cycling event on Sunday, continuing his good form in 2021.
The Berbician rode solo to stop the clock at two hours 19 minutes and 46 seconds in the race, which pedalled off from before the Banks DIH Thirst Park complex in Georgetown and proceeded to the Police Outpost at Yarrowkabra on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway before returning for the finish at the point of origin.

Suzanne Hamilton continues her supremacy in the female category

Padlock, who hails from Ulverston Village, Corentyne had registered fourth position last week, and won the last race held in Berbice. He was involved in multiple attacks throughout the race, but his most significant attack came at Providence, where he opened a 20-second gap from the peloton.
Another Berbician, Andrew Hicks, came in second, after he prevailed in a strong sprint that featured Alexis Mendes (third), Marcus Keiler (fourth), Paul Choo-Wee-Nam (fifth) and Deeraj Garbaran (sixth).
Padlock, Hicks and Garbaran are the riders from We Stand United club, which dominated the event in the senior category. Two special sprint prizes, each worth $10,000, were up for grabs, and Hicks and Choo-Wee-Nam claimed those respectively. Kwame ‘Keyman’ Ridley took two regular sprint prizes, and Hicks took one.

Berbician trio of Hicks, Benjamin and Green

In the Juniors category, Team Alanis’s Sherwin Sampson rode in first, while We Stand United’s bright prospect Alexander Leung came in second. Alex Mendes was again the top veteran, followed by Team Alanis’s Paul Choo-Wee-Nam. Gary Benjamin won the Masters over-50 category, after defying the odds and a flat tyre to clinch a close sprint win from Talim Shaw and Shameer Baksh in that order. Suzanne Hamilton was once again the top female rider, followed by Clivecia Spencer. The race was approved by the National COVID-19 Task Force, and the Guyana Police Force provided security in an all-hands-on-deck approach. (Brandon Corlette)
