Home Sports Teams look to rebound following rain-affected round
GCB/Jaguars 50 Overs League 2017…
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Jaguars 50 Overs League continue on Thursday December 21 with its next round of matches bowling off simultaneously across venues in the country.
After rain washed out three of Tuesday’s scheduled four games, only one result was met after Essequibo ran roughshod over West Demerara, beating them by a handsome margin of nine wickets.
Looking to the next round, most teams apart from the in-form Essequibo; who are also the current 3-Day champs, will need to quickly get their franchises organized as the end of the tournament draws near.
At the Young Warriors Ground in Berbice, Lower Corentyne will have the privilege of tackling the in-form Essequibo who has been as rampant in the 50 overs as they have been in the 3-Dayers.
Led by leading wicket-taker Anthony Adams, the Guyana Jaguars left-arm spinner, Essequibo will rally around their side which features Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kemol Savory, Kevon Boodie, Ricardo Adams and others.
Lower Corentyne on the other hand is expected to field a good team and give the Essequibians a ramp with the likes of; Jonathan Foo, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Raun Johnson and others.
Georgetown could see skipper Leon Johnson and opener Robin Bacchus returning to the side which has been playing below-par in the 50 over format. They will face East Bank at the Bourda Ground with skipper Ronaldo Ali Mohamed, Sherfane Rutherford, Steven Jacobs a few of their marquee players to watch out for.
West Demerara, led by Guyana Jaguars selectee Akshaya Persaud will want to rebound following their hammering at the hands of Essequibo in the next round as they face East Coast at Everest Ground.
The Bush Lot Ground in Berbice will see West Berbice and Upper Corentyne locking horns with both franchises looking to wrap up this year’s competition on a high note. All matches are scheduled to bowl off at 9:00hs.
