A teenager was on Thursday last arraigned for the murder of 19-year-old Barneth McKenzie, who he reportedly knifed to death at Dazzell Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
The suspect, 18-year-old Aquil Farrington of Dazzell Housing Scheme, Paradise, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared before Magistrate Rochelle Liver-pool at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictment.
Police stated that on July 14, 2020, at Dazzell Housing Scheme, Farrington murdered Barneth McKenzie.
It was reported that on the day in question, Farrington was involved in a dispute with the deceased, thus resulting in a heated argument followed by a scuffle. During the incident, Farrington whipped out a knife and stabbed the victim several times about his abdomen.
The injured teen was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The matter was later reported and Farrington was later arrested and charged.
The teen was granted bail in the sum of $500,000, and the case was adjourned to August 28, 2020.
