Teen attacked, chopped while walking along roadway

A teenage construction worker is battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he was attacked and brutally chopped about his body by a male while walking along the Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD) public road on Saturday evening.

Reports are that the injured youth, Denzil King, of Lot 21(C) Ever Green Street, New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, WCD, returned home from work around 18:00h but went back on the road.
However, less than 30 minutes after King had left his residence, his sister received a telephone call from a friend who notified her that her brother was attacked and chopped.
According to a police source, King had been walking along the public road in the village, when a vehicle stopped close to him and queried if he was “okay” but the teenager did not respond.
The driver of the vehicle promptly drove away from King. Moments later, an unidentified individual attacked King from behind with a cutlass and dealt one blow to his right shoulder. He was also chopped to his left elbow, abdomen and back.
The severely injured young man managed to walk to his friend’s home, which was a short distance away and related what took place.
The female friend rushed the bleeding King to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was immediately admitted for emergency medical attention.
However, due to the severity of his wounds, the young man was transferred to the GPHC for further medical treatment. His condition is presently regarded as “serious.”
Meanwhile, Commander of D Division (West Bank Demerara-East Bank Essequibo), Senior Superintendent Linden Lord when contacted stated that investigations into the matter are still ongoing and that statements are being taken and reviewed with the hopes of apprehending the culprit(s) soon.
