Teen caught stealing ducks chopped

18-year-old Chetram Gopaul, called ‘Pops’, is now nursing chop wounds at the New Amsterdam Hospital after he was injured by a homeowner who caught him stealing his ducks.
The Police have said that on Wednesday at about 03:40h, the teen was chopped at Number 67 Village, Corentyne Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) by a 52-year-old man who subsequently went to the Springlands Police Station and reported that the teen was found in his duck pen with five of his ducklings in a salt bag. The man valued the ducklings at $5000.
In his report to the Police, the man said he armed himself with a cutlass upon seeing that the teen was armed with a knife. Further, the man said the teen charged towards him with the knife, and he fired several chops at him in self-defense, hence the injuries the teen sustained.
Gopaul was escorted to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was examined and treated for his wounds. He was, however, transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further medical attention.
The owner of the ducks has since been taken into custody, pending investigation.
