Teen charged for friend’s murder

A teenager was on Thursday charge for the murder of his friend whom he had stabbed to death during a gambling game on Sunday last.
The teen appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on July 7, 2019, at Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD), he murdered Mervin Squires.
As such, he was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on July 19, 2019.
It was reported that on the day in question, a group of men were gambling at 3rd Street Grove, EBD during which and argument broke out between Squires and the other young men over money.
The argument quickly turned into an alternation and it was this time, the teenager whipped out a known and stabbed Squires twice to his chest.
Squires reportedly died on his way to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. At the Hospital, his inconsolable family members gathered to get a glimpse of his body that was laying on a stretcher.
His mother told this publication that she was at church when she received the tragic news. She explained that her son and the suspect are friends and would usually lime together.
However, a post mortem performed on the remains of the 21-year-old of Kaneville EBD proved that he died of a single stab wound to the heart.
Squires leaves to mourn his parents and two sisters.
