Teen charged with possession of unlicensed gun, ammo

Eighteen-year-old Christopher Ali of Lot 1 Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown was remanded to prison on Friday when he appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Leron Daly charged with possession of an unlicensed pistol.
He denied that on September 24, 2018, he was found at Crown Street, Queenstown, Georgetown with one .32 Taurus pistol and several matching rounds of live ammunition.
Details surrounding the teen’s arrest revealed that he and a company of others were traversing Queenstown on bicycles when they were stopped by Police ranks in the area. When searched, the pistol and ammunition were found in his possession. He allegedly told Police ranks that the gun and ammunition were given to him by a friend after it was stolen from a relative.
He was taken into Police custody and advice was sought. As such, he was charged and place before the court.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh requested that Ali not be placed on bail, based on the seriousness of the offence and because the Court had been presented with no special reason for him to be granted bail.
Ali will make his next court appearance on October 2.
