Seventeen-year-old Javid Atkinson, of Kumaka in Region 1, was charged with the offence of rape of a child under 16 years, committed on a 12 year-old female student on Thursday, January, 2, 2026 in Essequibo Coast.
The charge, laid under Section (10) (3) of the Sexual Offences Act chapter 8:03, was on Tuesday, January 13, read to accused at Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir.
Atkinson was not required to plea to the charge.
However, despite the prosecutor’s objection to bail, Magistrate Mohabir granted bail in the sum of $300,000, on condition the accused reports to Acquero Police Station the first Friday of every month.
The case was adjourned for February 4, 2026 for disclosure of statements.
