…“she was a jovial, very religious person” – grieving father
A 19-year-old who was reportedly speeding along the East Coast Demerara (ECD) roadway died after she lost control of her car and slammed into a utility pole and signboard.
Dead is Chandramala Singh of Lot 13 Novar, Mahaicony, ECD.
Reports are that on Tuesday evening about 20:15h, the teen was driving motor car PVV 3507, which was proceeding at a fast pace along the northern side of Content Public Road.
Police on Wednesday said that as the teen was negotiating a left turn, she suddenly lost control of the vehicle and ended up on the parapet on the southern side of the road, colliding with a signboard and then a utility pole.
Following the accident, Singh was taken out of the vehicle by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Mahaicony Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body is presently at Anthony’s Funeral Home, Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Speaking with Guyana Times on Wednesday, the teen’s father, Latchman Singh, said that the family was in shock and disbelief over her death.
“She was a jovial, very, very religious person,” the grieving father said, adding that his daughter was returning home from GuyOil Head Office on Camp Street, Georgetown where she had been employed for over a year.
