Teen dies in hit-and-run accident

A teenager was on Sunday evening killed in a hit-and-run accident along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway at Kairuni.
Dead is 19-year-old Ryan Boodhoo, also called ‘Rambo’, of Lot 113 Kuru Kururu village, Linden/Soesdyke Highway.

Based on reports received, the now dead teen was with three others, walking along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway at Kairuni when one of the friends heard a vehicle approaching from behind. He looked back and saw the car approaching them at a fast rate of speed, and he reportedly pulled the person next to him to safety.
However, Boodhoo, who was in front and on the right, was hit from behind by the speeding car, which fled the scene in the direction to Linden.
The injured teen reportedly fell on the roadway and sustained injuries about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious state by the Police and public-spirited citizens, placed into a vehicle and taken to the Mackenzie Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
When contacted, an uncle, Anthony O’Connor, told Guyana Times that his nephew had worked as a mason/carpenter at Kairuni, and on the night in question, he, his brother and two cousins were going to the shop to make a purchase when the accident occurred.
“They normally stay at the worksite, so they went to buy some snacks, and were heading back when the car come around a turn with a speed and hit him… After the accident, the car drive away, but a friend went behind it on his motorbike and get the number… it’s a red car with registration number PZZ 2881,” the uncle started.

O’Connor noted that his nephew had sustained severe bodily injuries from the impact of the hit. He recalled receiving the dreaded news at some time after 20:30h, soon after the family were given the devastating news.
The late Ryan Boodhoo leaves to mourn his parents and seven siblings. Up to late Monday, the driver of the motorcar was not arrested.
Last May, 8-year-old Akese Jerome, her grandmother Anthonia Henry, and her aunt Melina Emmanuel were killed when a speeding car crashed into them as they were sitting at the curbside along the Kairuni public road of the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
It was reported that motor car PHH 6628, which was being driven by a 39-year-old fireman of Mackenzie, Linden, was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road at a fast rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, and it collided with the left side curb of the road before ploughing into a group of persons, all relatives, who were sitting on the side of the road on the said curb.

Little Akese Jerome was picked up in an unconscious state, placed into a passing vehicle, and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Henry and Emmanuel were also picked up in an unconscious state and placed into a passing vehicle and taken to the Mackenzie Public Hospital, where they were also pronounced dead on arrival.
Kevin Bizzeth, subsequently charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving, was released on $900,000 bail.
