A 19-year-old excavator operator, died on Tuesday morning after his excavator sank into a swamp at Kara Kara, Mackenzie, Linden trapping him inside.
Dead is Ezekiel Benjamin.
The incident occurred around 11:50h while Benjamin, employed by D. Sookram & Daughters General Contractor, was operating the machinery to dig a drainage channel intended to relieve stagnant water by redirecting it to the Kara Kara Creek.
As he maneuvered the excavator on the soft ground, it suddenly began to sink. Within moments, the equipment tipped and was quickly swallowed by the muddy swamp, trapping Benjamin in the cabin.
